We wanted to create something that our drinkers would be proud to be apart of,  and came up with the three groups below based on feedback from our drinkers.  Whether it’s in your mailbox, on Facebook, through email or otherwise – rest assured, you’ll get the full treatment and you’ll be proud to call yourself a member!

One word: Ed.

That’s right all you aspiring Eds, here’s all you need to put together a wicked Ed costume.

Plus – post your pictures to the official Alpine Lager Facebook page, and we’ll randomly pick the winner, who will receive a $100 gift certificate to the Moosehead Country Store!

Here’s what you’ll need:

1. Grab your most rugged pair of jeans and work boots. Here’s a hint: the older the work boots, the more authentically Ed.



2.Next you’ll need a navy blue work shirt. These can be hard to find, but Mark’s Work Warehouse or even Value Village could be your best bet. Don’t forget to roll up those sleeves.

3. Grab yourself a belt with a great belt buckle. The bigger, the better!

4.  The next KEY part – is to sport an Alpine baseball cap. Ed would never leave home without it. (You can get them at the Moosehead Country Store, btw)

4, From there – it’s all about the facial hair. Whatever you need to do – get yourself some whiskers. It’s the icing on the cake. Here’s a refresher – the decision of ‘stache v. goatee is up to you.

You may or may not know this about me, but I’m a music geek.  I spent about two hours this past weekend going through the archives of what’s available through the site at mooselight.ca/playlistproject.  You will not believe the back catalogs available!  Remember, every specially marked 12-pack bottle of Moose Light comes with four free downloads, plus an extra you can either keep or send to a friend.   What did I use my first few cases on?  The Hold Steady’s live album “A Positive Rage” and the deluxe edition of Florence + The Machine’s “Lungs”.  There’s something for everyone, from ABBA (15 albums!) to ZZ Top (two live albums!).  All the latest GaGa, J-Lo & Rihanna’s there too!

And really, there’s no better reason to get out there and swing a club than for charity. Alpine was once again a proud sponsor of the Randy Jones Golf Fore Kids Sake Tournament. The event was a great success raising over $109,000 for the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation.

The event, held at the Riverside Golf & Country Club attracted a number of NHL players including Aaron Asham, Nathan Lawson, Daniel Winnik, Dana Tyrell, Jay Rosehill and of course, Randy Jones.

Here’s where it started:

The sketch was created in SketchBook Pro by the mega-talented Yvan Meunier, based on a glamourous self-portrait he took of himself in Ed’s future pose. With the sketch finalized and approved, he then started to sculpt the pose using a paper-based clay.

The model is then dried for two days, part of which is done in an oven at a very low temperature. At this point, the piece is ready to sculpt.

The sculpting is done much like a traditional wood carving but in a much smaller scale. Final details were made using a small rotary tool for precision.

The head was created separately, sculpted to a slightly bigger scale to allow for more detail. As you can see, we made some last minute adjustments to his beard!

Once all pieces were complete, they were then shot and inserted into Photoshop for final revisions.

In Photoshop, much of the detail that gives Ed his “folk art” sculpture look was added for affect.

So, there’s our guy. Waiting to grace the carton of thousands of cases of Alpine beer next month. Special thanks for the details of this post to Yvan Meunier and to our friends at Extreme Group.

My favorite is the tubing one.  Actually, I think they’re all pretty awesome but I wanted to get your thoughts on which one you like best.  Better yet, what SHOULD have been on a Moose Light Summer Can?

So…A few months ago I grew a beard.  To make a long story short, I don’t have a beard anymore. 

My decision wasn’t nearly as difficult as it was when we were ‘grooming’ our newest friend at the brewery, Ed.  Moustache?  Full beard?  Goatee, soul patch?  The opportunities are endless & we examined them all.  Too ‘70s.  Too Paul Bunyan.  Everyone had their comments and I must admit, people are surprisingly passionate when it comes to facial hair. 

So the question remains, how should Ed be ‘groomed’.  I know, it’s such an “un-Ed” dilemma, right?  In any case, it’s obvious where we landed, but below are two of the final sketches that we decided between.   

'Stache or goatee, that is the question. Here are a couple of initial sketches done by our friends at Extreme Group and the very talented Yvan Meunier.
